This Free Training course runs 1-2 days a week for 20 weeks and is open to all 16-25 year olds based in Highland Perthshire.
It is a fantastic opportunity for any young person thinking about a career in the rural sector/land based industries.
The course includes certified training in Chainsaw and Brushcutter operation, Quadbiking and Pesticide use as well as training and practical work experience in fencing, dry stone walling, tree planting, footpath work and habitat management etc.
The partnership comprises six organisations: ourselves (HPCLT), John Muir Trust, Forest Enterprise, Kynachan Estate, Scottish Wildlife Trust and the Woodland Trust. Our joint vision is to increase native woodland cover and connectivity between neighbouring areas of woodland, whilst connecting people with nature.
A walk-over archaeological survey was conducted in March 2017 by Claire Thomas. Three sites were identified: a stone wall; a stone and earth bank; foundations of a small building. This last site is almost certainly the foundations for a ‘Pump Room shed’ in use in the mid 19th century. The stone wall along with the stone and earth bank may originally have formed a loaning, for leading animals to pasture, probably older than the Pump Room.
